In the recording session today we re tracked drums to try and capture a more aggressive sound across the board, particularly with the snare. We also set out to track bass as well at the same time.

The session started at 9am and we started by discussing what we would aim to do in that session.

Having already had a drum tracking session this year we were much quicker to get set up the way we wanted, starting the outboard settings based on the settings we used last time. We also used very similar microphones to last time making but with only the C1000 on the hi hats. The we used the same kit as last time as well but swapped the snare for one with a birch shell. It took us about 40 minutes to have all the microphones up and an initial sound and then we worked on the mic placement for another 10 minutes before making 3 takes, listening back in the control room afterwards and doing a basic mix on the console.

We finished the last take with 15 minutes till the end of our recording session so we made a quick turn around on the de-rig. In the next recording session we have a few things we could address, the electric guitars, re-amping the bass, sample reinforcing the drums. I suspect we will do the guitars next, but we will leave the options open for now.
