Mono room 2 Coles 4038
We spent a very long time setting up in this session. Going back and forth between the control and the live room getting the mic placement perfect. The kicks were lovely and punchy, easy to get done quick as well. In the end we don’t think we will need to use the Beta 91 in the mix as the D112 gave plenty of attack after we put it through a pultec EQ as shown in the picture to the left. The samples recorded are available on the downloads page, if anyone would like to request the password then please let me know.
The snare took a lot more work, we were fighting a battle against ring in the snare, even following a tune up with a tunebot we needed 2 pieces of moon gel to stop it. Not ideal but we got it sounding good.
The overheads we much easier to get sorted out. We knew exactly the sound we were aiming for and really went for it. The only adjustment was to lower them slightly to get a slightly more splashy sound, a bit more cymbal focused than we initially had them. When we did this we moved the 1st mono room mic correspondingly to keep it in phase.
