Solo Performance Recitals

Between the 7th and the 24th of May 2019 I have been mixing for all the popular music recitals at work. The variety of music that the students have played has been massive. “Blackbird” by Rumer, “Come Fly With Me” by Frank Sinatra, “Starlight” by Muse, there was some Queen and some Black Sabbath. By the end of this month I will have mixed for approximately 70 different live acts, each one between 15 minutes Read more…

Dance of Despondancy – Drum Recording Session

I’ve been working on an EP for a University Student; https://www.facebook.com/SebbCooper/ . His music draws from a very wide range of influences ranging from Romantic to Jazz and Metal; it is hugely complex but sound great. This recording session was put aside for tracking drums. We got into the studio at 17:15 and began to get ourselves comfortable, we plugged in the microphones and patched them into some different pre amps. Below is my planning Read more…

Gospel Concert – Huddersfield Town Hall

I recently had the privilege of mixing front of house for a gospel concert, I was approached about this approximately 2 weeks before the event. It was quite a challenge to draw up the technical specifications because the goal posts kept moving as different acts submitted their requests. After I received a running order I set about contacting every act, one at a time, drawing up requirements for each and confirming it when they got Read more…

Stereo IEM’s

I’ve been talking to a few different people recently about stereo IEM’s instead of mono. The advantages of mono are perhaps more obvious than the advantages of stereo, you can have twice as many mono outputs that stereo. This is very useful for us at church because of the number of musicians we have on stage at once. With a standard line up containing 8 BV’s, each with their own mix, its understandable how we Read more…

Front of House – Bollywood Jazz

On Thursdays at work there is a class for the people on our performance module, occasionally we invite working professionals in to give performance masterclasses and these follow a performance, open to the public. Tech Rider One week I was given a tech rider on the Tuesday for Thursdays Concert and didn’t really know what to make of it. It seemed quite specific compared to what I’m used too, not that I’m complaining, I love Read more…

Bethel Music Live

I arrived at 8:00am for the load in as an in house tech for Huddersfield Christian Fellowship. I’ve gone off live sound a bit following some work with a band that shall remain nameless, but this day was refreshing. Bethel was touring for Big Church Live, the same promoter as with my last involvement in a big live event, so it was nice to see some familiar faces there. The equipment for the tour was Read more…

Audio Book Recording Disaster

06/09/18 – Recording vocals for an audio book. This was my first recording session as a member of the technical team for the School of Music, Humanities and Media at The University of Huddersfield. With my experience recording my line manager asked me to do make this recording then send it off to the client nice and quickly. I was also asked if some of my less experienced colleagues could accompany me; I objected to Read more…
